A technical expert with an enquiring mind
In constant pursuit of the perfect design, Darren considers every option. He doesn’t just stick a box on the side, back or top of your house. He ponders your property as a whole, working out how best to fuse old with new. Various possibilities and multiple drafts result in an inspired solution.
Amanda Champness-Kent
Formerly a Graphic Communication teacher and entrepreneur herself, Amanda makes the ideal Business Partner. Since joining Spitfire she’s used experience gained from previously running her own business to streamline systems, improve communications and build valuable relationships with the council and contractors. Amanda offers valuable insight at the design stage of every project and manages Spitfire’s overall running.
Behind the scenes
Outside of work Darren likes to hang out with his wife and fight his daughters for control of the Lego. He also loves tinkering with old cars. In fact, he applies his problem solving skills to anything that involves building. Attention to detail is apparent in every one of his creations (even the Lego ones).
Perfectly qualified
Darren is a Chartered Architectural Technician, registered with the CIAT. He began his career in commercial surveying, listed buildings, public sector and one-off new housing before discovering a passion for residential projects. Darren understands people and understands houses; he has a natural flair for adapting one to suit the other. That means not just making a house fit for purpose, but ensuring the style of the build is in keeping with the personality of the occupants and the property.
“Don’t move, improve”
Spitfire’s mantra is founded on Darren’s belief that every house has the potential to be the perfect home. It’s a realistic approach to the current housing market. Not everyone who wants to move can afford the next step up the property ladder. Some have no desire to move but have outgrown their current home. Others may need to adapt their home due to a change in personal circumstances. Whatever the reason for needing more space, an extension or conversion is the answer.
